The finder searches every product reviewed on this site. It does not rank them by anything we were paid to prefer, and it does not hide one because its listing is incomplete — a listing that never states a figure still appears, labelled not stated, because an incomplete listing is not a worse product.

How big should it be?

The largest dimension the maker publishes. On a child it is the measurement that matters: a bag taller than the back carrying it will swing, catch and get dragged.

Hard shell or soft?

A hard shell protects what is inside and survives being sat on at an airport. A soft bag squashes into a car boot, weighs less and has outside pockets a child can actually reach.

Who is carrying it?

The age the maker suggests. Take it as a guide to size and strap length rather than a rule — children of the same age are not the same size.

Has wheels

Only listings that state wheels are shown when this is ticked. Absence means the maker did not say, not that the bag has none.

How to read the results

The figure on the right of each result is its largest published dimension, and beneath it how far that sits from the median for its own type and size class. On a child this is the measurement that matters: a bag taller than the back carrying it will swing, catch and end up being dragged. The bar shows where the bag sits across its class, with the median marked.

Where a class holds fewer than eight products, no comparison is shown. That is a deliberate limit, not a missing feature. Read the review under each result opens this site’s review of that product; Check price on Amazon opens the listing.

Why incomplete listings still appear

Every figure here is the manufacturer’s, as quoted in the review. A filter that dropped everything it could not confirm would discard much of the catalogue the moment you answered, and what it discarded would not be worse products, only less completely described ones. So a filter excludes a product only when its listing positively contradicts what you asked for.

The catalogue is 1037 bags at the time of writing, and coverage of the questions varies: size by 57%, shell by 84%, age by 39%, Has wheels by 47%. Those are the manufacturers’ own publishing habits, not gaps we chose to leave.

What the finder cannot tell you

It cannot tell you whether a zip will survive a school year, because that is what wears out first on a child’s bag and no listing publishes it. It cannot tell you whether a strap will sit right on a particular child. And an age range on a listing is a marketing guide, not a fitting — children of the same age are not the same size.
